Last Moments are Heaven on Earth
In 1995 i bought the posthumous Queen album “Made in Heaven” and was amazed by its picturesque cover art featuring a statue of Freddie Mercury looking over a lake and the three surviving members turning their heads towards the mountains surrounding that lake.
Years later i discovered that the place where the statue stands (and where subsequently the photos were taken) was the Lake Geneva at Montreux in Switzerland. So i went there and made these photos with the concept of mortality in mind.
The notion of mortality is represented in two ways :
1-as a direct visual aesthetic following a photographic process that tends to make the subject disappear through its very own representation.
This passage of time is graphically shown through a dark glowing veil (or screen) invading the picture itself.
2-as a blurred image (mirroring its first representation) suggesting “the other side”.
